    Hi everyone,

I have a question about goodwill letters after my story.

My wife and I have a JCPenney card we opened in 2000 when we were in Florida. We moved from Florida to Georgia in Dec of 2001 with no balance on the card. In the summertime we moved again to our present home, and didn't think much of the card because of the little use. Anyway, turns out they still had our Florida address and wound up having a couple of late pays on the bureau. I brought the account up-to-date after we found out, but those lates are still lingering.

We are trying to obtain a mortgage for our present home, and as you know, recent lates blow you out of the water.

Do you think sending a goodwill letter (heard about this on another site) will help getting these deleted? How hard is JCPenney on these matters?

Thank you and sorry about the long letter,

    duke

    P.S.
these lates were from nov and dec. since they were so recent, how would you word a letter?

    thanks again

it's worth a try. but i would be careful on how you explain the situation. i think not changing the address on your account is very convincing to delete the payments. try being creative. look at the sample letters in FAQ.

    It's definately worth trying.

I've written about 5 Goodwill letters and was successful with only one. Others have been more successful and I may have had better luck if I could have identified the "right" person. I read somewhere here that you really need to identify someone that can actually make the decision to adjust your tradeline.

I would not send a Goodwill to a low-level representitive of the company in question. Try to identify somebody that has more authority.

i meant NOT very convincing. they'll say it's your responsibility to make sure it was changed. but give it a try... you never know.
