I just got done talking with discover after i had activated my discover flag card with them,i changed my platinum card to a american flag platinum card one with them. After they activated my card i managed to get a 7.9% B.T. offer good through march 20 2002.They also waived my fees that would of been charged if i havn't asked them to waive it.I also got my credit limit raised 2K more making a total of 4K worth of increase in 12 months. No hard inquirie just an AR.This just goes to show that a person that is exercising their credit can reap the rewards for what it is worth.I had been with discover since october of 1999,and they are very good to do business with.My current credit limit is 13K with discover thought i just share my good experiences with discover with all of you.

    ble103,

Congrats on your good luck with Discover. How did you get an increase without a hard inquiry? I have been fighting this for months. Discover, under all circumstances, refuses to issue a credit line increase without pulling your credit report (a hard inquiry). Whom did you speak with? Thanks in advance.

    CONGRATULATIONS...

They are up to a $9,900.00 LOSS on me...I stopped using the card because they REFUSED to increase the credit limit with-out a "HARD" inquiry.
I also offered a "COUNTER" offer, give me the 1.70% BT...they said I could apply for it, and a HARD would be done!!! (it is ONLY offered to new accounts).

$900/WEEK WAS GOING TO BE ABOUT $50,000 YEAR ENDING 07/27/02.

They do an AR every month...so they DON'T need a HARD!!!

I WONDER IF I SHOULD GO TO THE WWW.DISCOVERCARD.COM WEB SITE AND PRESS THE FLAG CARD???

All I am "holding out" for $5,500...AFTER 5 PERFECT YEARS, IS THAT TOO MUCH TO ASK FOR?

$14,500+$5,500=$20,000 (THEY WON'T EVEN COUNTER OFFER LIKE $17,500)...

    MANTRA.....MUST PULL HARD...MUST PULL HARD...MUST PULL HARD...

How can you tell when any creditor will do a "Hard Inquirie"?There is only one way,and that is if they ever ask you for your income to decide if you should get it or not.If they don't ask for your income then it is safe to request an increase.See when a person gives a creditor information on how much they make then they will pull a person's credit history to see if that person is able to handle additional credit, and if so they will give it to that person.Having a low debt to income ratio does the trick to getting any kind of credit line increases.Dani, the person i talked to was ryan, and he has transferred to the credit dept. to see if i qualified for the increase that i asked for which was 2K he didn't ask me for my income because they can tell by my credit history on how much that i am getting.I pay on the average of $1050.00 worth of monthly payments on my credit cards, this tells them somthing that i got the ability to manage additional credit given by them.Just keep in mind that if any creditor askes anyone on how much they make this is a red flag for a hard inquirie to be placed on a persons credit report.Otherwise it would be just an AR.

    ble,

When they ask your income it is not always a red flag. Amex has been asking me this for years and they have never once pulled my report (hard inquiry or soft) for a credit line increase. That's why their my favorite. :) I'm glad everything worked out well with you concerning Discover.

I PRESSED THE FLAG CARD DEAL...

NOT that it will do any good...they still won't increase the credit limit with-out a credit report!!!

    George,

I know your situation is different as my Discover is only a $5500 limit, but the last time that I got an increase (from $2500 to $5500) they didn't ask or pull a hard inquiry. I recently got an increase on my GM card and they only did a AR. I'm not surprised with Discover though.

How long did you wait for a GM Card line increase?

I just talked to Discover about an APR purchase decrease. My Plat. card has a 16.99% APR and I don't use it much. Rep said if I did a balance transfer, she could do a decrease, so I transferred a small balance. She then gave me a "promo"rate of 9.9% good until March 2002 for purchases, and 1.9% on the balance transfer until March. I will switch my purchases to Discover now, from NextCard.

I was pleased, as I had just talked to NextCard and they still refuse to come down from the 12.99%....I transferred my small balance from them to my BOA at 9.9 until paid off. I have most of my balances at 0% until June with Citi Plat and Universal ATT plat.

I don't think NextCard will ever drop their rates...my card is going into my "sock drawer". I never have paid more than $5 in interest in a month to them, but it's the principle of the thing.

Since I hadn't asked for one, I think it was a few years before they did it on their own with no report pulled.
