I received an alert from Creditwatch tonight so I logged on to find a new inquiry from this company...

I checked out their website and found this:

ChoicePoint is the nation's leading provider of identification and credential verification services.

After reading through their site I'm quite concerned. Has anyone had any experience with them?
How would I find out who is behind the inquiry?

They do insurance, also employment and ID verification. Applied for a job? An online account of some sort?

Or maybe someone used your name or SSN....

See What Your Insurance Company Sees: A Guide to Obtaining Your Own Reports

Insurance companies have access to an extensive amount of information about your life, your family, your health and your personal history. There are database and information-managements companies that exist solely to traffic in this information. You may wonder how much they know about you â?? and if the information is correct. The problem is, even you don't have access to all the data that is collected about you. Below, we summarize your access to your own personal information.

Information Collector What Do They Know About You? Can You See It? How Can You Get Your Own Report?

Insurance Services Office (ISO) The "All Claims" database: your credit report, claims history, motor vehicle report, doctors you've been to, depositions given about you. Yes, but only if you have been denied a claim and you suspect there is an error in your report. Call (212) 898-6000. Ask for the American Insurance Services Group, then ask for a copy of your "A-Plus" report.

ChoicePoint The CLUE database: your credit score, claims history, driving record. Yes, you can get your report at any time. Call ChoicePoint's Consumer Disclosure Center at (770) 752-6000. It'll cost you $8 to $10.

Fair, Isaac Calculates your credit score. Fair, Isaac will not give you your score. Some lenders or insurers will show your score to you, but the score by itself is just a number that carries no meaning outside the lender's or insurer's system.

Medical Information Bureau (MIB) Contains medical conditions that could affect life expectancy or health (about 230 different types). Recorded when you filed claims or applications for disability insurance. Yes, but it may take up to 30 days. Visit the MIB Web site at http://www.mib.com. I have USAA insurance and they use Choise Point Services. I get at least one inquiry per year from them. I am currently disputing it with Experian. On another note, I used Doc's trick and I have had 3 deletions so far. Thanks Doc.

I have not applied for a job, insurance or anything online. Nothing since the auto loan in April.

It seems very strange to me to say the least!!!

I have USAA and have never had an inquiry from choicepoint or USAA - which company is yours with? I am really curious what they are doing with this now.

I had AR from USAA FSB last year, right before they sent me a couple of offers for credit in the mail - but that's it.

I am "former dependent" (civilian) - the company they placed me with is USAA Casualty. Nobody can touch their premiums - and then I get money back each year (not much this past year, LOL).

I think USAA Indemnity is for enlisted personnel, and the "Association" is officers.

I get wierd stuff sometimes too. I tried to pin them down on one, and they just sent me a new copy of my report - the item I was concerned about wasn't there. It still baffles me, where these come from.
