    Greetings, everybody.

I was hoping someone would be able to help me figure out how to approach a situation my wife is having with a medical debt.

Long story short, her clinic never sent a bill and sent the unpaid debt into collections. The collection agency never contacted her, and placed a negative mark on her credit report. The credit report does not properly disclose the creditor/collection agency, but rather has a nonsense string of letters and numbers.

    Any ideas?

EDIT: I should also add that we live in Minnesota.

Dispute the incorrect information with the CRAs, and you may also want to try contacting the clinic to determine if they've actually sold the debt to the CA or just handed it off for collection.

Medical debt is sometimes easier to deal with in regards to convincing the OC to pull it back from collections so you can handle payment directly with them, especially if it's for a rather small amount. If the debt has been sold and you have to work with the CA, don't forget to negotiate your credit score as well. A "paid" collection is essentially just as damaging to your credit as an "unpaid" collection.
