    Hi All,

I have 1 negative item on my credit report ($54 medical bill). It was sent to collections and I paid within 24 hrs of noticing it (this was ~ 1 yr ago). Apparently the stack of unopened mail had been warning me of such action..whoops :(

Anyway, it is the ONLY thing that is negative on my account. I am trying to refinance my house and it's keeping me from a better rate. It is only on Equifax and Experian. TransUnion does not have it listed.

When I pull my scores I get:

    Equifax: 727
    Experian: 725
    TransUnion 776

When the mortgage lenders pull my scores they get: 677, 675, and 757. They use the middle score (675) to base my rate.

I've tried to dispute it with both companies but the collection agency will NOT budge. They say it's company policy and refuse to remove it. I understand that, but does anyone know ANYTHING I can do to either remove it or boost my score quickly (i.e., less than 30 days)?

    Thanks!

    Amanda

Did you pay the OC or the CA?

One way to boost a score quickly is to get yourself added to a family members old open positive TL with a nice CL and low to no balance. This helps your credit history length as well as your AaofA not to mention would lower your ratio's (if you're carrying at all)….however from what I hear, some mortgage companies do not want AU accounts reporting and have asked consumers to remove themselves as an AU from the account before they will proceed -- this however may not be the case if it's a husband/wife deal whereas you are both applying for the re-fi.

Also, your scores from the mortgage company are FICO. Where ever you got "your" scores, are what are commonly referring to as FAKO, and don't mean much (sadly), in your case.

Another way to boost your credit fast is to pay off any credit card balances you might have. If you don't have the money, consider taking a loan from a family member or friend. This will get the outstanding debt off your credit report and your score will go up.

Correct. Just do not pay all revolving credit down to 0 balance, let 1% report. Otherwise this will actually hurt your score depending on what your previous ratios were.

I paid it within 2 days of it being reported to the credit agencies. (I didn't realize it was delinquent)

To the collection agency? Or the OC?

Also do you know which owns the debt?

Thanks for both of your responses. I have a fairly low balance on 1 CC, about 20% of the limit. The lender said that was not affecting the score. :(

I talked to the lender today and he said one thing that might be hurting me is a high # of Open lines ( I have student loans), which apparently each count as an 1.

Does anyone know of a way to have the negative mark removed? I'm not having any luck just asking or disputing.... Thanks!

The debt was originally SonoraQuest laboratories. The collector is RSI. I've talked to RSI several times and they are not going to remove it.
