Applied for Home Depot instant credit and was approved in the store. From what I heard, Home Depot and Best Buy are the two hardest store cards to get. I'm thrilled!!!

Congratulations ! I am pleased that you got this ! Go get those DIY thing-a -ma-bobs !

    Would you mind sharing:
    where you are located,
what hard inquiry did they pull,
    your score with that CRA?
also, was your CR free of any past BK?
any negatives that they would have to overlook?

also, what APR and LOC did they offer?

    thanks,

    Maggie,

    I'm in IL
No BK, No negatives. CH13 fell off a couple of weeks ago. I haven't checked my reports to see who they pulled.
I don't know the APR, I forgot to ask the guy. CL is $1750.

Just checked: they pulled EQ, I have 3 other inquiries there and score of 756. My score hasn't dropped as a result of the inquiry...yet.

When you applied for the Best Buy Card. Did you do the combo w/the mastercard? If so.. did they do more than one inquiry?

    Thanks

Slayer, Congratulations more on getting that dad-gummed Chap13 BK falling off your CR's that for getting just this one card.

I would think with the BK gone, and with your scores as they now are, you should be open for quite a few prime card opportunities in the coming months. I bet you start getting some offers, if you have not opted out of soft inquiries by the cc companies.

I, too, am really looking forward to the day that my BK and tradelines associated with the BK fall off.

Can you please tell me when was your filing date versus when the date when the BK fell off? was it the same month as the 7 year mark or a different date? also, when did your tradelines associated with the BK fall off? 7 years from date of last payment to them, or when?

I am so happy for you !!! Whoo- Hoo !!!

If you do the combo with the MC, they will pull an inquiry for each. Their answer to me was 2 different products, 2 different departments, 2 different applications, 2 inquiries.

    Maggie,
I never applied for Best Buy... I was only mentioning from what I heard, it's difficult to get approved for the Best Buy card.

    Maggie,
Unfortunately, the CH13 only fell off from all reports about a month before the actual official 7 year mark. The key was having one of the CRA's removing it first, then using that as evidence with the other 2 CRA's. I filed in July 95, they just fell off late May, early June. I had almost all of the associated tradelines deleted in 98 by way of disputes, except for Chase which kept coming back as verified by TU and EQ. EXperian somehow verified it and somehow converted it into a positive account. But keep in mind, even though all those BK tradelines fell off, it did little to help my scores until the CH13 itself fell off.

I have already begun the process of phasing out subprime cards and applying for prime only. I got AMEX approved last week, now Home Depot, and I just applied for MBNA but no answer yet. I will never be able to get Chase or Citi, but I can live with that.

When we got Home Depot they pulled EX. Score was 717 with 2 paid tax liens, just under 2 years old.

TU scores have been very low due to "lack of retail cards" so we applied for several others that Monogram Bank offered to improve the mix.

    We got :
    Home Depot
    Lowe's
    Brooks Brothers
Exxon/Mobil (online said it said declined but we got it anyway)

JC Penny - Declined (It was the last of the 5 applied for)

And in answer to the BIG question, ONE HARD INQUIRY for every app.

The CL's aren't big, only in the $500-$1500 range and the interest rates are high 19% - 21%. We got the cards just to have the retail tradelines in the mix. Have used them quite a bit but haven't carried a balance.

Lowes and Home Depot do offer some special 0% financing deals with the card for purchases over $299, and Brooks Brothers sends pre-sale notifications so there are some little benefits.

(One other caution about them, if you get the cards, don't try to dispute the inquiries off. They'll close all of your Monogram Bank accounts in a heartbeat to protect you from identity fraud. We called and got it straightened out, but it was a pain!)

    All the best!

They and Lowe's approved me at the same time. Lowe's for $1K, Home Depot for $300. Lowe's then doubled to $2K within a few months. I could not get Home Depot to budge off of the $300, so I finally dusted them.

Wow, that's a big difference in CL's! Is Lowes also issued by Monogram Bank of GA?

Don't remember who Lowe's is through - will check upon receipt of next statement.

I got pre-approver offers from Home Depot that came with Exxon Card. I got approved for $2000. From time to time I request the limit increase and they increased my limit to $8800. Two years ago, they lowered my rate to 9.9% fixed for purchases without asking.

So if these companies are all issued by Monogram Bank, and someone has JCPenney card, does that mean if they apply with any of the others listed above, they'll be approved for those as well? Or would the credit requirements be different for each company?

Monogram Credit Card Bank of Georgia = GE Capital

All have unique risk scores by Client Type. Different stores drive in different risk populations, therefore they customize the CBO scores by store.

Absolutely correct - they also have different teams answering the phones for each retail partner.

I also noticed that they don't just use a score cut-off - they can further profile customers (i.e. BK auto declines at Lowes & Mens Wearhouse, not at Home Depot ... )
