How does CRA verify?

I have a few derogatory accounts on my report that have not been up updated in a year or so. I am going to dispute these, but I was wondering how the CRA verifies. Do they actually contact the company that placed the account on your report, or do they wait until the next time they update the system? If it is reported then its considered verified, and if not then it is deleted? I have heard they do both, but I was hoping for the later.

They are supposed to contact the information provider and verify the listing, NOT simply wait until the next monthly tape reports.

They are supposed to contact *whoever* reports the tradeline and find out if the information is correct within 30 days. If they don't receive an answer they need to delete it.

Thanks. I was just double checking. I had heard/read about the tape method a few days ago. I knew it wasn't the "correct" way, but I thought I would double check. I guess I was just hoping for the easy way out. When will I learn???
