I am applying for a mortgage a my banker pulled up my credit scores. lo and behold I have debt collection on my credit report. They are medical -- but since I live and work overseas I have never received the bills, i.e., didn´t know I owed anyone money. These are ridiculous amounts, like $75 etc. When I go to the companies listed they ask for my account number, ¨which is on my account statement¨ -- except I have no account statement!!!!

How do I get my hands on the account numbers?

    Many thanks,

    Susan

Send a letter without an account number. Explain that the credit report that you received on xx/xx/xxxx was the first communication that you received from them.

Stumbled across this post and can't believe it's almost been a year!

Susan- were you ever able to get your medical debts cleared up in order get approved for a mortgage? I agree with jam- there's no need to have old account numbers in order to dispute the validity of the debt. Are you willing to come back and give us an update on how this all played out for you? Happy to help from here on out if you have additional questions too.
