    How many CNet members...

...does it take to change a light bulb?

    • 1 to change the light bulb
    • 3 to congratulate the poster on changing the light bulb
    • 4 to share similar experiences of changing light bulbs and how the light bulb could have been changed differently
    • 5 to post about the different types of light bulbs & which brands last longer
    • 6 to point out spelling/grammar errors in the original post about changing light bulbs
    • 7 to flame the spell checkers
    • 9 to argue over whether it's "lightbulb" or "light bulb"
    • 12 "experts" to inform the group that the proper term is "bulb"
    • 1 know-it-all who claims she works in the industry, and that "light bulb" is the accepted terminology
    • 14 to post that this forum is not about light bulbs and to please take this discussion to the lounge
    • 15 to defend the posting to this forum saying that we all use light bulbs to read our credit reports by and therefore the posts are relevant to this forum
    • 17 to attack the arrogance of the 14 who suggested the discussion be moved
    • 21 to say that they will no longer post on this board due to "how much this board has changed"
    • 24 to suggest that the author of the "light bulb" thread be banned
    • 30 to say "didn't we go through this already?"
    • 31 to say "do a search on light bulbs before posting questions on this board"
    • 1 newbie to respond to the original post 6 months from now and start it all over again

    LOL,

    Southpark you're warped.

    You forgot a couple.

    • Lbrown59, to wait 5 years and bump the thread thinking it's a current discussion
    • CNNSteve, to finally move such a critically important discussion to an inconsequential part of the site

Just because folks who have been here for years have read and old post doesn't mean the newbies have seen or read it.

    PS
Perhaps all post over a year old should be deleted from the board.
That way the old timers won't be bugged with them reappearing after they've aged a bit And the new members won't get to see them.

They never take it off the report when we make it right so why should we take it off the docket when they do?

Good try but they don't count because you must begin the sentence with a number :)

I don't think old posts should be deleted, but perhaps after a period of time they should be read-only. It's very confusing to have a post appear that is three or so years old. I don't usually look at the date of the first post.

If there is an update, the old post could be referenced.

Making them read-only makes them be still available for searches. And if you really want to know the old stuff, do like I did and start at the beginning of the board and read all the posts.

When an old post is made current, there may be information in it that is no longer valid. A newbie might not realize it's old data and incorrectly rely on it. I say if it's over six months old, leave it alone!

Actually, the correct industry term is lamp. Electricians call the bulb a lamp, and what we think of as a lamp (like a table lamp) is a light fixture. Electricians don't change lightbulbs, they relamp light fixtures.

    Sorry, I couldn't resist :-)
