I've read that heaving a hard inq will lower a score by 5 pts. But, on credit reports it indicates that there have been too many inqs. Do they list that reason if you only have one? Since it lowers your score, then even one is too many. Right?

I think you get one for free, after that they start costing anywhere from 5-15 points.

How long do they stay on? 12 months? 6 months?
    I've read both-depends on CRA.

Rakt is correct, hards stay on for 2 years but only the inquiries from the last 12 months are included in the FICO score.

1 inquiry with EX cost me 13 points and after I got it deleted I only got 12 points back. EQ, 1 inquiry cost me 1 point. Charlie

Thanks George. So Hards stay on the CR for 2 years but only count against the fico for the previous 12 months...okay.

    From the myFICO site:

Inquiries remain on your credit report for two years, although FICO scores only consider inquiries from the last 12 months. Note that if you order your credit report from a credit reporting agency â?? such as to check it for accuracy, which is a good idea â?? the score does not count this, as it is not an indication that you are seeking new credit. Also, the score does not count requests a lender has made for your credit report or score in order to make you a "pre-approved" credit offer, or to review your account with them, even though you may see these inquiries on your credit report.

They stay on depending how long it takes you to bump there ass off your report. 8 more days i will have 0 inquires. Then i will apply for something and gain some points according to George's chart.
