I know I have asked this question a million times but am still having trouble deciding what to do, I was just asking this question again wondering if it was TOTALLY stupid for me to keep a card that has a 130$ annual fee in hopes of calling them every year to get them to reduce it. I was just trying to figure out if I was being illogical in keeping a card that I KNOW VERY WELL has a 130$ fee and calling every year to TRY to get it waived down. From what I hear the success rate of getting at least part of the annual fee waived is usually very high.

Should I just go for a card that I AM willing to pay the annual fee on every year like the AAdvantage world mastercard? OR do I keep the amex, shut up, and call every year:)

I think this is something that only you can answer. Do you have a strong attachment to the $130 annual fee amex card? If so, then keep it. Are there better benifits? If so, then keep it. Otherwise dump it and go with the other card.

What benefits does it have that you can't get elsewhere?

I have a friend who thinks I'm "stupid" because I pay a fee at all. I have a Dividend Miles (USAirways) and a Mileage Plus (United). One has a $50 annual fee, the other I think is $65. Now, what I want to know is, if it takes me two years to get a free ticket to anywhere in the US, that's at most $130. Where can you get a ticket for that price? No where that I've gone lately. So, it's a decision if those benefits are worth the fee to you.

Also, is it your oldest (or best) tradeline? If so, is it worth $130 to have that tradeline and possibly get you better terms on auto loans, mortgages, or other cards?

Evaluate the cost vs. benefit and do what seems right for YOU. There's no right answer for everyone.
