In Oct. I applied for a guest card, got the standard $200 limit, in the regular time frame of about three-four months it got bumped to $500. A few months ago, I applied in-store for a Target Visa, and was denied because of 1 derog (both the derog, and the amount of the derog) & utilization, appealed, and got a 'we stand by our decision' letter. This morning, I picked up my mail, and almost went into shock... "You've been upgraded to Visa" at a few % lower rate, (still not prime), approx 18%, but $1000 limit. WOOOO WOOOOO!
I have had a Target Guest card for a few years. Stuck at the 500 limit. It was fine with me as I wanted two store cards to keep my ratios in line. I never applied for the Target Visa but they sent me one last week. The letter said to please activate it immediately as my Target Guest card would no longer be valid. I am not sure what the rate is, the cl is $2500.00. I love Target as well. However, I really did not want the Target Visa. I wanted to keep the store card. I am curious how they will report this- will it shoe as a new account or will it repalce the Guest card and show continuation of the same account. They are both offered by RNB so I am hoping it's all the same account. (Congrats, by the way!- it sounds like you wanted the card)

I'm not a fan of Target........not in the "prime" world BUT they are great for starting out.....I got mad at them and sock drawered them...here's why... Had the Target guest card for 1 year ($200 limit initial and then upto $500) and decided to try for the visa, they gave me a $700 limit but closed my older TL which they assured me they wouldn't....that P'd me off.....and then when called to increase my limit...they don't, or not w/o a hard....and well, didn't.....so, I haven't used them since....actually I think I'm going to close the account out....it's really pointless....the store doesn't give any bonuses for having it anyway........
I had a feeling they would close the old tradeline and 'open' a new on when the cards switched. That makes me angry as well. As far as 'bonuses' with the target Visa, there are a few. You can pre-load the card with 'member only' coupons. They also have a points program. Neither are spectacular, but they re worth looking into. Regards, SS
I've never seen "member only coupons"?? What are they? Still don't think its worth keep the card, given my other limits....I think all the toy tradelines are hurting me now...........but it is over 2 yrs old so that's why I'm not dialing to cancel immediately as we speak.....what to do, what to do..........
Members only coupons are for customers with the Smart Card enabled visa, essentially the card logs you into a special terminal in the store, and they download coupons into your Smart Card. I tried it, and found out that the visa I got wasn't Smart Card enabled so, there's one step to go... Shawn: Read the top of the new terms, if you don't activate the visa, and accept the new terms, they can close out the guest card completely. From how it looks on the card, the member since date on mine is 10/2003, so it looks like the visa should carry over the guest card history.
I noticed the smart card issue as well- BUT! I did learn something yesterday. I was in target picking up some supplies and I learned that you can 'logon' at the kiosk and print coupons from it. You can also print '10% off' discounts if you get them (one showed up on my online statement). I asked about the smart card and I was told (however I have no idea if this is true or not) that it was meant for online shoping from home via a free smart card reader but the idea 'died out'. I have no idea if this is true, this is just what the cashier told me.
