    Hey all,

Last week, some dipshit collection agent did a reverse lookup on my address, looking for a phone number, which did not include a APT #. My building has 4 apartments in it, so the guy asssumed it was me, he asked for some Angela person, long story short, he called 4 more times last week and finally yelled at my girlfriend and said if she didn't put angela on the phone, he'll send a sherrif out to invesitgate. I IMMEDIATLY recorded teh call on my answering machine, got on the phone with him, told the shmuck I was her husband and had an atty on retainer and that I had recorded his call. I told him there was no angela here, to which he promptly hung up. I immediatly called my atty and gave the number on the caller ID, but no name, freaking UNAVAILABLE anywho.

NO MORE THAN 45 MINS LATER, I get a call from this guy, who said the firm had called them, asked to speak to the manager, got them to call me and apologize. Turns out they can do a reverse lookup on an address and thats what he did, I'm in #4 and the lady is in #1.

Short of this all is, I put fraud alerts on all 3 bureaus, well, in the mail a few days later, I rec'd a credit report from experian for my GF and I.

Just thought some of you would like to know how to get a freebie every now and then!

There are ways to get freebies, I wouldn't recommend getting by a fraud alert:(

Generally, fraud alerts aren't something you want to appear on your CRA reports. In some cases, you'll experience increased difficulty obtaining new credit. In other cases, you'll have more trouble disputing incorrect information; in any event, the alert will slow things considerably. Some anecdotal evidence suggests a negative impact on credit scoring. You might search the board for "fraud alert" and "Hawk alert" to read more. In actuality, you were not a victim of fraud at all. Rather, some dumb CA mistakenly telephoned a wrong number. You might consider contacting each CRA and requesting that the fraud alert be removed since you requested that in error.
