Hello all, I was browsing around on the web and stumbled upon this site and mabye someone here can shed some light or point me in the right direction. I'm a 22 year old college student at the Univeristy of Florida and I want to start building credit, however im having some trouble. I keep getting the delcine due to "Insufficient credit history". have no loans or any potentially harmfull things on my credit history (i checked it on my annual credit report) so the only thing that seems to be holding me back is my lack of credit history. I was reading up on credit cards and some people were recommending gas cards or store credit cards to start off with, I have no problems with the gas card but it seems like I can't even get one of those. Does anyone have any advise?

Try Orchardbank & Householdbank for credit cards. They are the easiest to get for people with hardly any previous credit, or folks just out of bankruptcy. They might start you out with low limits ($300) and impose an annual fee ranging from $49 to $79. But it's a start.

Go to your bank and get a small personal loan. I do not think that should be that hard. When you apply for loans sometimes no credit can be just as bad as bad credit, as far as the score is concerned. Good luck

Several things come to mind. First, try a local credit union. They will sometimes give you credit when others won't, especially if you have some money in savings to use as collateral.

Second, since you're a student, it's often easier to get a student card. You might try that.

If you want a secured card, try Bank of America. I believe they report as unsecured.

also you can try Wells Fargo,, they give student credit cards when you open any account with them, happened to me with no credit whatsoever, I just showed my college ID.
