I am a newbie at fixing my credit and have been reading a lot. I have a couple of questions. The main problem with my credit report (besides my available credit to debt ratio, currently 64% used) are late payments. I have seven potentially negative accounts and five accounts in good standing. I want to deal with the late pays. Some of them date back to 98 but two are fairly recent. In November I had to find a new job and got a little behind. The latest I have is a 60 day past due but some accounts do have two late pays on record. My main question is should I begin with a good will letters or go directly to disputing them with the CRAs. And, if I do one will that hurt my chances of following up with the other or is there anything else I should consider? This board has been very informative and helpful. Thanks for any assistance.
If the account is a pretty good one that has a relatively long history, a Goodwill Letter might be the first place to start to keep the account as a positive one. Longevity means a lot.
In your case since you don't really have anthing over 60 days late on your CR and each account only has a couple late pays, and I would dispute the accounts as never late instead of the usual recommendation of not mine.
