A little confused about opting out- of ALL CRA's...?

One of the first threads I read on this board said that the first step before doing any kind of credit repair is to opt out of Lexis Nexis. (Though the link given to opt out of Lexis Nexis doesn't seem to be the right one for opting out of their pre-approved credit card and insurance offers and has stipulations on who is allowed to opt out of whatever that particular list is.)

Then today, I was reading some other posts that talked about opting out of all of the CRA's lists (I assume for pre-approved offers for credit cards and insurance.)

I understand that the 3 main CRA's are:
    • Equifax
    • Experian
    • Trans Union

But that Lexis Nexis is a CRA and technically so is Chex Systems....

Is there a 'list' of all the things I should be opting out of, with the instructions how to do it?

Should I be opting out of ALL of them before doing anything else, or just out of Lexis Nexis?

    Thanks for any guidance.

I personally have been and am permanently opted out of all CRAs. It took a whole lot of letter writing to make it a permanent opt-out. :)
