Macy's credit increase

A few months ago my Macy's limit hit $3,000.

For those who didn't know, there are 3 credit increase channels with Macy's:

    - Authorizations (when you call from a store)
    - Credit Granting (when you don't)
    - There's also a third, outsourced channel, called "Credit Center". Their direct # is 1-800-537-0162.

90 days after my last increase, I called the first two for another increase. No way. Not even a $100 increase.

I've just spoken with the third channel, Credit Center. They pull reports left and right, but seem more liberal. Was put on hold forever. She then came back: "Your new credit line is $4,000, sir. Would there be anything else?"

    (Absolutely. In 3 months :))

    Saar,

A very nice and helpful post. Thank you.

I've been thinking about asking for another increase from Macy's. The last time was a disaster. They pulled a report but denied the increase. And I was (and still am) at only $400.

So this cost you an inquiry? Hey....if you can afford it, then COOL! You are off the hook!

I'm afraid to ask for an increase with inquiry. I'm afraid after they look at my report that they might start DECREASING!!! LOL...

Although...maybe I should call and see what I can do about purchasing a bed on a TOP account. My back and neck are killing me! :-( I noticed they carry Stern's & Foster. Maybe I'll stop by there this evening.

    MP$40,

They even TOLD me they were going to pull the report, and I agreed. That was dummm of me, a fact of which you notified me at the time.

At least they told me. That's better than the Citibank method of not telling you, and then lying if you ask.

Sure I can afford it, my EFX already has gadzillion inquiries, what difference would another one possibly make?

    ;)

I glad you got an increase.

I was using the Macy*s card for a $80 purchase. I hadn't used the card for about 4-5 years. The cashier said she had to call the the auth. in. Spoke to the rep. she said, "we need to update our files". Verified all my info. then lo and behold I check my Exp and they pulled HARD INQUIRY!! To add insult to injury it remained after Doc's trick.

I've had it with these morons!! Federated Dept. stores suck!!

I think Federated got big by buying successful stores, not by offering excellent service. Macy's has a definite service problem.

Does this phone number work for Rich's Department Store?

Maybe you just needed to know the right things to say to them??? LOL...

If you call them for an increase, tell them that you DO NOT want an inquiry pulled. Tell them you are in the process of a mortgage and that would screw you up. Ask them what they can do w/o inquiry. Tell them you to buy some stuff for your new *house* you're purchasing. ;-)

So the Credit Center is different from the main cs number for Macy's. Yesterday I called the CS number to ask for a CL increase and was denied. Do you think I have a chance w/ the Credit Center number?

Update: Turns out they didn't pull EFX. They switched to XPN - in my case anyway.

Called Credit Center number and received an increase. They pulled EX for me too. Didn't tell me but I just checked and the hard inq is on there.

    How much?

From $900 to $1700. I had thought the $900 was in the standard range and then I saw all the posts about $3000 LOCs and I got jealous (LOL). I have had the card since 1992. One of my oldest.

Credit Center really seems to be offering MUCH higher increases! $800 here, $1000 there - not bad for a store charge card :)

Not bad considering the regular number turned me down flat.

    P.S. ThanKs for providing it.

I tried to get this card on twice and have been denied. I thought it was easy like Target. I just got Target, so I figured I would try this one for help with ratios. Should I try the SAM trick?
