Can a person have more than one credit card? Like two Visa's two Mastercharge.

Yes, you many have as many Visas and Mastercards as you wish, or a creditor is willing to give you based on the total amount of outstanding credit you have. Mastercard and Visa are only clearing houses. The actual creditor is the bank servicing your account.

American Express prefers that you only have one card, but you can also have an Optima, and a Blue, and get additional cards for family members and others. American Express is the acutal creditor through their subsidary, American Express Centurion Bank.
