I requested validation from NCO back in Aug(Citibank). I sent them 3 letters with no response. and got the BBB involved. The BBB got thier attention and per NCO legal counsel the item was removed from my credit reports.

This past Mon I receieved a letter from the NCO legal counsel with a copy of a statement from Citi back in 98. There is no request for payment, but here is an account balance.

Is this statement Citi proper validation? If it is not, what other info should I request?

I do have them on violations during the validation period.

    Any input would be appreciated.

Little more info. Citi only shows up on EXP as a charge off, but it has 2 charge off dates.

Can NCO still try to collect on a charge off?

I PFB'd Citi to try to settle this account, I am still waiting to hear back from them.

If I get Citi to deal with me, does NCO haave a right to collect?

    LK,

No it is not on the CR's that is what I am worried about, but I do have some leverage with vioaltions they have committed.

    Thanks for the input.

    Islandboy,

    NCO is required to follow these steps;

    1) Immediately begin investigating your dispute by contacting the original creditor to obtain validation.

    2) OC forwards said validation to NCO

    3) Once receive, NCO is to forward said validation directly to you.

Now - does that sound like a letter from 1998 qualifies?

BTW - since it's not on your report just leave the situation alone for now. If it does show up it better be "in dispute". That's what you're looking for.

    Re: NCO-Validation?

    Butch,

Again thank you for sharing your wisdom with me. I will wait and see if they re-report and get them on more violations.

I am not sure if NCO sending me a statement from Citi is proper validation.

After I PFB'd Citi for goodwill a yesterday, I checked my CE-EXP and my Citi charge off is now gone. I am not sure if it was because PFB or the online dispute I did last week. Exp also deleted a judgement, which was sent via snail mail.

Butch-FYI, still working on that med collection you advised me on. Thank again for your help with that.

    LK,

I was just looking for other points of view. Thank again.
