I have just started the process of repairing my credit, it is mostly from loans and I am doing a good job with paying everything back. I was saving my largest loan till last and a few days ago I got a summons in the mail saying that i was being sued by national collegiate student loan trust 2006-3. I have never even made an attempt to make a payment with them or reached out to them in any way to let them know that I want to pay the loan back. Is it past the point of reaching out for help? I don't know where to turn and Im really hoping for some good advice to point me in the right direction.

    Welcome to Creditnet!

If you've received a summons, the next step is you have to file an answer to the summons so you can avoid a default judgment. You've been sued now, so it's past the step of just reaching out for help with the debt. Have you thought about hiring an attorney to help you file an answer with the court? You could do it on your own, but if you can afford it you might want to have a good lawyer help you through the process.

    joshua,

thanks for getting back to me... I think this is a situation for a Lawyer to deal with, I don't really have the money but I think it will be worth putting the little i do have towards it. I borrowed 17k and they are coming after 76k.

Yes, that's a sizable amount of cash they're coming after and I think it would be wise to find a good attorney to help you navigate the process. Just make sure you do it quickly so you get your answer filed within the timeframe. The very last thing you want to do is sit on it for too long and allow they to secure a default judgment right out of the gate. Good luck!
