    Hello all,

I currently have a tax lien I'm working with a local low-income non-profit IRS clinic to get reduced, and paid. I'm told by the person handling my case that there's no way to negotiate removal of the tax lien with the IRS. I of course would like to negotiate that the lien will not only be reported as paid or satisfied to the CRA's, but will be removed entirely, as part of the settlement deal.

Does anyone have experience with this - is it possible?

    Many thanks!

I've never dealt with anything like this before, but from what I've heard, the IRS doesn't negotiate in this manner. It's not in their vocabulary.

    Hi Joshua,

Many thanks for your response. I was afraid of that (though if anyone has any differing experiences please let me know).

As for disputing this, has anyone had luck getting such liens to fall off their reports based on failure of the IRS to verify? I'm assuming my chances would be best after the lien is paid, or marked 'closed' or 'settled' on my report?

If that doesn't work, will I find my credit situation to be healthier once the lien is paid, even if not removed?

    Many thanks, all!
