I will post my experian report here. Im just getting started and feeling a little overwhelmed on where to begin, what to dispute, and how. My debt will probably look silly since they were small, but I was young and own my own and lost a handle on things trying to make it by. My scores are currently mid 500s, but the funny thing is I thought it would be even worse. Good news is some of this will roll off around next spring/summer. Should I leave those alone or try to get them off anyway? Someone told me they can re-report u and the time will start over, is that true? Also what do I do about an old unpaid acct that is being listed as opened under the CA in 2002? the OC is Target from like 1999 and now its showing with Asset opened in 2002. Same thing with Discover, it was charged off in 98 but thru LVNV its saying it was opened in 2002. Nelnet says they will re-report it as updated when they get the deferrment information from me. I keep faxing it and they keep saying they never got it. So Im going to mail it. Also, how do I get my old addresses and employment and misspellings of my name removed? As u can see I have a lot of work ahead but Im confident this can be done, its just a matter of getting the ball rolling. thanks in advance to anyone willing to help!
Okay, a lot here, but let's jump in! As a "veteran" of credit repair, first let me pump you up a bit. I took my credit scores from the low 500s to now almost 800. So, yes it can be done! The important thing is to "plan your work, and work your plan". There is a "process" to this, you MUST follow the process to be successful. When you start taking shortcuts, or miss steps, you will find it does not work. So... let's start with your case. #1) DO YOUR HOMEWORK: read the 'stickies" about validating debts (Collection Agencies), disputing TLs with the reporting agencies, etc. Yes, it takes time and work, but again it is an important part of the process. #2) GET CURRENT COPIES OF ALL YOUR CREDIT REPORTS: Know where you stand with all of them, look for conflicting data/info which you can later use. #3) GET ORGANIZED: You will need to set up records of your activity, files for storage, materials for certified mail, etc. Think of yourself as in the "business of credit repair", and basically set up an office with all the supplies and storage that you will need. #4)Organize your tageted Tradelines: make a "priority list" of items to remove. I do not recommend trying to hit them all at once, you cannot focus and manage the activity well enough. Read up on the FICO scoring model, decide which TLs (if removed) would improve your score the most. #5) GO AFTER YOUR FIRST DISPUTE: Take your top "priority" TL. If it is a "Charge Off or Collection Agency" item, review the "validation request" letters, and send one off CERTIFIED MAIL (very important). When you can confirm the CA has received the request (hence the CERTIFIED MAIL), DISPUTE the TL with the Credit Reporting Agencies as "NOT MINE" on your first round of disputes. Put the burden of proof on the agencies. Go from there... The most important thing in the beginning is getting your first "deletion". There is no better motivator than success. Focus on getting your first removal by following the process. From there you will only get better (and so will your credit report and score!)
