This is my first post.I have been lurking for quite some time absorbing as much as I can. I wish I knew about this place before paying alot of CA's off (I thought a 10% settlement was good)Will try for deletion later. I hope you can find some time to help.

Status of 6/96 Charged off bad debt Joint Acct

First off this was not a joint acct . I was an ex-boyfriends AU. Called OC they stated that I was a contractual user.(they didn't even have my ss#) They want me to fax their fraud dept. with my D.L.,
S.S. card, and a dispute letter signed 5 times. Should I send it to them or dispute it with the C.R.A?
Also if I read correctly,I thought that charge offs come off in 7 years and couldnt be updated.

Don't send them anything. Do just the opposite. Ask them to send you verification that the debt is yours. The original signature, the contract, that sort of thing that proove this is your debt.

If you send them anything, they will use it against you.

I am a relative newbie myself so do not take my advice alone. Wait for more responses from the "oldtimers" (I am gonna get it for that) from this board. They will give you great advice.

Thats exactly what I thought. I might be paranoid but she seemed too friendly and willing to help.

Is there a collection account tied to this collection? The reason I ask, is I had an account charged off in 96 and Dillards could not validate. After requesting validation they deleted. On the other hand, the CA is still reporting. I have been working on having Equifax delete this item.

    2 months and counting.

No CA just them. I dont think they can validate it because I never applied for it. I used it once but the card didnt even have my name on it.

I was told that they did not have the records from 96. Therefore they would delete from the credit reports, which they did.

    Good luck!
