No wonder Washington Mutual went down the toilet and is being bought out/merging with Chase.
    These people can't even add.
On September 12 when rumors started flying that Wamu is going down the drain I went in there to close my savings account. Balance therefore was zero/0.
Well, today Oct. 8 they paid me 12 cents interest. On $zero/0????
And they charged me $5 service charge leaving me with a balance of minus $4.88.

What were the interest posting dates? You probably overlapped it by a few days, so there was some earned interest before you made your withdrawal.

Of course, you would think they would calculate it to the closure date on the 12th. You should now spend $12 in gas to make sure the account was marked closed, and get your $5 back. LOL
