Good news for New Yorkers bringing suit in small claims court: The small claims limit is being raised from $3,000 to $5,000, effective January 1, 2004. That gives even more people access to justice without having to either hire an attorney to proceed in a higher court, or to say goodbye to the remaining amount of their claim. http://www.nolo.com/lawstore/update/detail.cfm/objectID/0198C1E2-B59A-4C78-9317A51868101DA8
