I am going to attempt to obtain the lowest possible settlement on my card debt. It seems that there are 2 stages to this: first 6 months dunning by OC followed by further 6 months CA pursuit. The CA being a leg man for the CO before "charge off"? Does one do the whole validation thing with them (CA) or is that the domain of the JDB? Does one need to be wary of admission & re-contracting issues working with the CA?

    Thx much - Asan

If there is a JDB involved, then the debt is sold and the OC account needs to list a $0 balance / paid / closed / sold.

You send a DVL to the CA or JDB, whomever is reporting. A DVL is not the for the OC.

Is this a recent debt though (sounds like it), in which that case you're well within any states SOL and therefore negotiating is harder (but not impossible), but validation comes much easier in the early stages.

If the account is newer, most likely 'proof' is within the Document Retention Period, so the CA can have the OC provide the proof you request when you ask for validation.

Every account is different. Some companies outsource 'pre-collections' to a CA. Whether the CA is a CA in that case depends on if they are acting in the name of the OC, or the CA.
