    Dear Sir or Madam:

    Re: Account XXX...
    Name

    Bank

I am writing this letter in hopes of an offer to amicably settle the above account coupled with a mixture of a grateful and sincere "thank-you." It is not to be construed as an acknowledgment of liability for this debt in any form.

I enjoyed a relationship with Bank for many years; however, unfortunately through the downturn in the economy in 2008, my spouse became unemployed. Shortly thereafter, I found myself unemployed as well. I understand that there is no excuse for not being fiscally responsible however, these were the brutal extenuating circumstances surrounding this matter. I understand that four years is an incredibly extended period for this to lag and am diligently working to correct this and perhaps rehabilitate my relationship with Community Bank/Texas.

I will pay your company the amount of $###.00 as full settlement of this account.

If you accept this agreement, I may be contacted at ###-###-#### and am able to personally deliver cash, money order or other specified form of payment in exchange for a full deletion of all references regarding this account from my credit profile(s) and full satisfaction of the debt. This agreement is binding and will be void should you not hold up to your end of the agreement. Furthermore the debt will be deleted from my credit profile at all three credit bureaus, or the bureaus your company regularly reports to in the natural course of business.

If the above arrangement is agreeable to you, please contact me at ###-###-#### at which time I will pay the above referenced in exchange for an executed copy of this agreement.

Notice: This agreement is restricted. This is not a renewed promise to pay, but rather a restricted settlement offer only. By not contacting me and not signing below, you agree that the debt has not been renewed nor have any concrete written agreements been exchanged.

Thank You. I look forward to resolving this matter in the best interest for both of our parties and also wish to thank you for renewing your confidence in me and for giving me a second chance at a relationship with you, one that I am determined to keep spotless.

We are about to shop for a mortgage, and it has come to my attention that the late notations from Bank may preclude me from taking full advantage of the very lowest interest rates now available. I am requesting that you give me a second chance at a positive credit rating by revising this tradeline. It was suggested that I write you for a "goodwill adjustment." I sincerely hope that I may have redemption at/through Bank, and I beg you for such consideration. Please let me know if any additional documentation would assist in reaching a positive outcome, and I thank you again for your time invested reading this letter.

    Very hopefully yours,

Can you give us more details regarding the debt you're trying to remove from your credit reports here? I'm just trying to better understand the situation you're facing before providing any feedback on the letter. Thanks!

Oh sure! Thank you for responding.

It is an accurate reported item regarding an old checking account with such a minute amount that based on the fact that it is legit and the insignificant amount we thought it best to pick and choose the battles.

There are much bigger fish, so to speak, and once I have all reports in I'll start tackling those.

Again, thank you for your time and assistance.

    Have a great day!

I'm generally a fan of brevity for these types of PFD letters. I think you've got quite a bit of fluff in there that could be cut out, so I would suggest sticking to the basics and keep it simple. You don't want whoever reads this to immediately assume you just copy and pasted your letter from some site online. Know what I mean?
