    paypal isnt a bank.
and they are shady...i think paypalsucks.com has alot of info on their shady-ness.

they have been known to close out accounts and keep the money that resides in it. bad news.

I read about them on Ebay a long time ago when bidding on something. They seem to freeze your money and its hard as heck to get back. I sent the person I bought it from a M.O.

I guess I've just been lucky with them...haven't had any problems so far.

I also have had no problems at all with them. Until money market rates hit the crapper, they had one of the best deals around -- no minimum deposit and no minimum withdrawal and competitive rates; a nearly unheard of combo in a money market.

After making a few (small) deposits from my bank account into a paypal money market account, I had no trouble getting the ATM/Debit card.

Despite the "sucks" site, I think that PayPal is a dependable and reputable company. I've used them extensively in my buying and selling on eBay without a single problem. In fact, I would call myself a PayPal fan. :)

Here's a heuristic: Just because a big company has inspired someone to put up a "sucks" site, that doesn't mean the company is bad. In fact, many companies have their detractors with detractor websites in tow. Check Google.

I recently got a PayPal offer for thier card via Email but I didn't pursue it ... I've only used them a few times and did not experience any problems.

As an eBay seller, I am a big PayPal fan. Haven't had a problem with them in over two years, and I love the cash back debit card.

That said, I could see how an account freeze would suck. For that reason, I withdraw my PayPal money almost immediately, either via bank draft or the debit card. If there were ever a problem, they would have to try and take money from me, rather than me trying to take my money from them.

I've read PayPalSucks.com a few times, and I don't think these guys are making up their experiences, but they seem to be a *little* fanatical. Plus, they are trying to organize an "open source" PayPal, I think. Then again, it's always fun to rant!

I wasnt stating they sucked solely because they have a paypalsucks.com site.

They suck because they close folks' accounts on a whim. Mine was closed for almost 2 months because they couldn't call me one day. I simply was not at home. They equated this to my phone number being false. Although it was not much..there was roughly $200.00 in that account that I could not touch for that period of time. Talk about feeling helpless.

At that time I searched google, and found paypalsucks.com where others had the same problem..except alot of them still to this day havent got their cash back, and some of them have alot more than $200.00 in there.

Stupidly, I still have my paypal account. but i only use it for very small transactions and I instantly pull cash out of it should someone pay me for something using it.

    c2it is preferred.

I've read reports of them actually taking money OUT OF YOUR BANK ACCOUNT to cover negative balances.

for example, if I send you $50 and you take that $50 out of your paypal account (spend it, transfer it, whatever) and then PayPal decides that the transaction was fraudulent or even if I request a 'refund' because I never got the item I bought (remember, it's an example) they would actually take the money from your bank account... That would piss me off!

I'll try to find a link or something...

PayPal WILL take the money out of your bank account if they feel that you owe it to them(and there's money in the account to take).

Read PayPal's user agreement sometime... it's a complete joke. It gives them permission to freeze your account at any time for any reason, withdraw funds from your personal bank account, etc. Once one of those things has happened, you're out of luck until PayPal decides to give your money back.

I think most PayPal users would close their accounts immediately if they took the time to read the user agreement.
