After about 4 weeks now, I finally got a reply to the goodwill letter I faxed wells fargo (student loan). The letter said something to the effect of "thank you for your inquiry.. we have reviewed the info we provide to the credit bureaus, and verified the information to be accurate...etc"

It's almost as they didn't even read my letter as a personal plea, but as if I was challenging it's accuracy. The template I used was one that I found here... begging for "a second chance", pleading the "circumstances.. etc. Not asking them to verify.

My situation was that I was out of work, and got a deferment, but they reported me as late (90 days). I need advise on what to do next...
Should I call the number listed on the letter and talk to any rep? what should I ask for? please help!

    Thanks a lot in advance

This happened to me!! I went after my school rather than the lender. The lender will NOT do anything for you! Try calling your registars office and tell them what happend. See if they will work with you. Tell them you filed for a deferment and they still put you down as late! Ask if they will remove the lates! If s/he is a smart ass... threaten to contact the Obsumands office and report them!!! This is what I had to do... HOWEVER...once that word (obsumands office) come out of my mouth.... they where willing to work.. and quickly!!! The even removed lates that where legit.

Just make sure that when you talk to someone. Note all names and dates. Then ALWAYS send a follow up letter the following day of what you all talked about and what you expect. This way... they know you are serious and could cause problems if they don't get their act together!!!

    good luck

Thanks so much for the reply. That's some good information...just have a couple of questions.

In the goodwill letter I sent, I did admit that I didn't send the forbearance form to them on time. I was a couple of months late, but when I did get the forbearance approved, it was approved for the same 3 months that are showing that I was late (the same time I was out of work).

Also, it never occured to me that I should actually go after the school... since wells fargo is the one reporting the account. Is the school supposed to be able to tell the bank what to report on my report? (I am currently paying on that account) and how do I find out who my ombudsman is? I did a search on the internet a while ago, but I couldn't find the right person.

    Thanks a lot in advance.

Try PFB. It'll bypass the CSR people, maybe. Charlie
