Thread: Probably a dumb-?

...but how long does a negative report stay? I had a repo on a car in '96 and it says it will stay on there until 2006... Thats a long time. Does it go by when I started the loan or can they just keep reporting it for as long as they feel like it? I thought it was for 7 years but...well, please help.

7 years from the charge off is a good rule of thumb.
(usually 6 months past the past due point at which you stopped paying+years).
