About a week ago, I PFB'd Providian regarding the interest rate on my Visa card, which I *assumed* was still at 23.99% (ouch, yes, but i must keep it open for the age).

Apparently my bad habit of paying online and not actually reading my statements has come back to bite me in the ass.

I got a letter from them today saying that they're not sure HOW I missed the disclosure in my statement in August saying they were rasing my APR to 27.99%.

But as a nice gesture to me, a cardholder in good standing, they would lower it back to 23.99 - and said it's the lowest APR they have for that particular card (read: subprime).

Can't wait to get my tax return and completely pay these people off, geez. My next PFB to them will be to waive the annual fee or lose me as a high-interest-paying customer.

Pay it off. If you have other better cards, don't use it except for the rare purchase just to have a balance on there once in a while and pay it off after 2 months or so just to rack up a little interest. Otherwise let it sit in the drawer and have it raise your FICO as it ages.
