I am trying to get a mortgage and the loan officer called today and said that they need to me to write two letters staing why I was late on two accounts.These accounts are both paid charged off accounts.One from fingerhut and the other from 1st. national bank of marin.Could you guys give me some ideas.Without some this board I would not have gotten this far.Thanks you guys....
You can say a number of things - I said, "I got divorced and was left with the bills of two incomes with only one! I struggled to get back on track and since, have not been late". Or you can say, (I said this too), I had major surgery and was out of work for XX weeks/months. After recovery, I was billed for the hospital bill that I wanted to make sure I paid and was not able to pay that large bill and all my other obligations...blah blah blah". I think the idea is to tell show them that it was an isolated incident and that before this "event" and since this "event", you've been a responsible person.
