I had some tough times and defaulted on my car loan a year and a half ago, the debt was charged off I believe in New York for about twenty thousand dollars. How can I go about begining payments and reinstateing the loan. I just got a new job and I would like to clear up my debts.

I don't want the car company to find out what my job is and garnish my wages or even repossess the car.
    thank you in advance.

Well, here's the dilemma, without initiating contact with them, you can't try to make arrangements with them to clear up the debt.

If it's been 18 months, it could be a long shot that they'd be open to trying to re-open the existing and already legally charged off account, and they would be less likely if your unable to or unwilling to provide any information about who or where you work for so that they can gauge the income and likelihood that you'd be able to bring the account current, and continue to make payments.

And by initiating contact with them, what harm can be done?
