Sam, I got the Citibank cards today, Silver and Gold AAdvantage and I am going to call Tuesday AM to combine. What should I say is the reason I am combining the cards (combining 2 cards that I applied for before I even use them)? Will they ask me why I am asking to combine? Will they still charge me the $50 and $85 annual fees or will one be dropped? After they combine them, I expect I will have to use the card for several months with good payment records before I try to upgrade to Platinum Select correct? Thanks for the help in advance. -Peace, Dave
be straight forward. "I decided that I would like a product that does not charge a yearly fee. Could you please , transfer my product to the platinum select and combine both cards". "or transfer product 1 to platinum select, product 2 to platinum select dividend". Don't be shy, you are the customer. You demand what you want. They will comply. Be strong, Trust me i felt the same way, and have gotten my way without question every time. Do it now, to avoid the yearly fees'
Nave, Unlike other card benefits, combining 2 cards or switching from one product type to another, does not require any "excuse" or "silver tongue". The rep is SUPPOSED to do it for you. True, we've had a couple of instances where reps were unwilling to cooperate. But that's just due to incompetence on the reps' part. You have more than 90% chance to get both done on the very first try. Good luck! Saar
There should be no questions asked, I just asked to upgrade due to the fact that I don't want an annual fee. Also ask for a lower apr, I believe it was Sam that said to ask for prime+0.9, I did and got prime+3.2 but thats not bad its 9.9%, they will also drop the annual fee off the aa card when you upgrade if you ask. Citi is very easy to deal with in that sense, though I'm having a difficult time getting a BT. Good luck tuesday. I'm not sam but I hope this helps. mindy
Thanks Saar, Thanks Mindy! I will let you know what happens Tuesday (Anticipation over a loooong weekend sucks...you can't fully enjoy the extra day -Peace, Dave
Called this AM. Didn't combine the 2 but got the AA Gold card ($80/year) upgraded to Platinum Select with no yearly fee, lower APR. I just said having the 2 AAdvantage cards was a mistake on my part, I wanted one with no yearly fee and one with mileage awards. I will probably use the silver AA ($50/year) card only for purchases of the higher mileage bonus purchases and if in a few months have not used it much will combine it with the Platinum card. (Not to mention the silver card is pretty cool looking...even has a silver magnetic stripe not black). Anyway wanted to update the board and thank Saar, Sam, and Mindy for the advice. -Peace, Dave
One more thing...to go from Gold AAdvantage to Platinum Select they had to give me a new number...maybe it's through a different citibank affiliate? -Peace, Dave
Hi Dave! I called Citibank today to combine my AAdvantage to Platinum Dividend total of $19,500 in a single card, amazing! Absolutely awesome of avoiding the yearly fees. Like you said they had to give me a new number. Thanks! Herman
