So bummed - I already paid

I paid off lots of little debts thinking it would help my credit score a lot. This was over 2 weeks ago, before I came across this board. I still would have paid, but I would have DV'd first.

    ARGH!!!!

Maybe the CA's won't care since we already paid them and will just delete the stuff.

The reason we started doing this is because we met a Mortgage Broker who helps people fix their credit so they can buy a house. I saw this mentioned and people here said not to do that.

Can anyone let me know why exactly? I'm thinking of dropping the whole thing with that guy, because I KNOW we can do better work on our credit than he can. All he did was write a dispute letter, and he seems not to care about my credit because I have 2 judgements. Basically I have started the work myself with DV.

Thanks for your thoughts and advice...

I would say to drop him and do it all yourself. There is nothing that he can do better than you can in this case, especially if you have the knowledge from this site and others.

In most if not all cases, an underwriter for a loan provider is going to want to see all collection accounts paid before approving the loan. That also pertains to judgments, they want those to be paid judgments.

Paying off the CAs give you no leverage at all in getting anything removed is why it is suggested that you don't do it. Now you just play the waiting game and see what happens with your DVs. I am not sure from your posts, but did you do everything from paying them to DVs in less than a month?

If you don't hear from them, you can always dispute it with the CRAs next. Sometimes when the CAs have their money, they don't care to take the time to verify, so don't despair!

I know, and yep, I did. :( I'm so sorry I didn't come across this site sooner. It was by accident, too, as all these terms and techniques are new to me.

You've encouraged me though, I really hope they all just ignore it so I can be rid of those.

My judgements will fall off in 2007 and 2008, should I just pay them and let them fall off? Or is there a way to expedite that? They are defaults for apartments (stupid ex).

After all I've learned here in just 24 hours, we're going to wait to buy a house for one more year, rather than pay out buttloads of money to someone who's fleecing us because of our sub-par credit.

    Thanks :)
