    Has anyone heard of a Trackers Inc Collection Agency in Bettendorf Iowa? A Mrs McCrady from there called my Mom this morning looking for my 20 year-old daughter, who lives down south with her mother, but does go to school in Iowa. She refused to provide any information regarding why they were looking for her or who they were, just an â??urgent personal matterâ?. My Mom did not give them any information and they would not provide a number to call them back at and when she did the *69 thing the number was blocked. They then called my brother, who is a policeman, at the police station. Same thing, no info no number. He figured it was a bill collector and since they called at the cop shop he was able to get her number and called her back. He gave the woman hell for calling him at work and she did apologize saying she had heard my daughter had an uncle who was a policeman and thought she could get info. Can a bill collector just call relatives at work like this? Anyone have any suggestions for dealing with this incident, or even if I should? Certainly if it is a bill she rightfully owes it should be paid but this seems to be going a little far in my opinion. Anyone know what kind of accounts this company collects on? Thanks.

    By the way, in case anyone is looking for info on this company the address is

    Is this agency contacting relaatives at random a violation?

    I suppose what I am asking is if this is a violation of the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act. As I understand it Section 805 (a) (1) of the Act says that you may not contact a consumer at work or any other place you know or should know is inconvenient to the consumer. Now, would this apply to a relative of the consumer who has nothing at all to do with this debt?

    Something else, I visited the website of this company and they had a section describing their computer system and it mentioned that it was capable of doing "Voice Prints". Could they be recording and storing your voice to ensure that in the future they are speaking with the right person? What about the privacy issues of doing this?

    You can visit the page I am referring to at

    I'm use to talking to myself but I was kinda hoping someone else might have an opinion on this.

    Parent,

    You've been around awhile. I expect you've read the FDCPA?

    • § 804. Acquisition of location information [15 USC 1692b]

      Any debt collector communicating with any person other than the consumer for the purpose of acquiring location information about the consumer shall --

      (1) identify himself, state that he is confirming or correcting location information concerning the consumer, and, only if expressly requested, identify his employer;

    When Mom asked who they were they were required to tell her.

    (called; "meaningful identification)

    That interesting. Thanks. I wonder if this is worth pursuing further. I know it's not much of a violation but I don't like collection companies getting away with anything.
