I checked my reports and they have been updated. Unfortunately Verizon is showing as settled for less than the amount when I actually paid in full should I dispute this with the cras?

I would dispute anything that is incomplete, inaccurate and unverifiable.

To have the strongest case, I would use a two pronged verification process.

    1) Send to the data furnisher a letter listing exactly what is wrong with the trade line reporting. (This takes away their argument that they only had the code that the CRA sends them on the dispute.)

    2) When you know that the data furnisher received the first letter, send a letter to the CRA disputing the trade line reporting, again detailing everything in the trade line which is incomplete, inaccurate, or unverifiable.

Look at the new stickie post http://consumers.creditnet.com/Discussions/credit-talk/t-case-law-easter-eggs-73058.html for some case law that contains relevant snipplets that could be quoted in the your letters to emphasize the need for both the data furnisher and CRA to perform a detailed investigation of the inaccuracies.

This is definitely worth disputing with the CRAs. You certainly want it to show a paid in full status if that is indeed the case.

Thank you for the input! The first thing I decided to do was call back Verizon. I got a helpful rep on the phone who was very understanding. She confirmed that I had paid the amount in full, and stated, " I have no idea why they would have reported like that, but I will be sending out the paperwork stating that you did indeed pay in full."

She gave me a confirmation number, and said it would take 30 days.

    What a waiting game!

Yep. Watching molasses pour in winter, or paint dry has nothing on the system. :)
