Visa Signature vs. World MasterCard

When I did the Citi BDD thing in November I was approved for the Gold AA card and was offered an upgrade to the Platinum Select World MasterCard. I instead converted the card to a Platinum Select Dividend because there was no annual fee.

It now looks like I am going to be flying more than I thought I would and I am beginning to think that the AAdvantage card would be a pretty good way to go for me after all. With the amount I would be flying I think the benefits would more than make up for paying an annual fee.

So I went onto Citi's site tonight to look at the AA cards and I see they offer both Visa Signature and World MasterCard. I have a few questions for anyone who can answer. I understand the bit about the no pre-set limit, so no one has to go into that.

    1. Will Citi convert a MasterCard account to a Visa account in the first place?
    2. Which do you feel has more benefits? The Visa Signature or the World MasterCard? The one difference that is most interesting right away is the airport parking benefit of the Visa Signature.
    3. I gave up my bonus miles for opening the AA Gold account when I converted. Do you think if I converted back they'd give me the bonus miles back?

Anything else anyone can think of would be appreciated.

    DaveLV,

I think Citibank,SD. no longer issue Visa and now they only issue MasterCard. Citibank WorldMasterCard is your only choice.

    DaveLV,

My brother asked them to convert his Sony Platinum Mastercard into Sony Platinum Select Visa. They told him Citibank dropped Visa brand cards. Do you remember John Reed (Citibank ex-CEO) quits Chairman of Visa? It is because Visa didn't allow them to put logo in the back of the card. I guess Citibank now carried Visa again since John Reed quit.

    DaveLV,

When I click on the apply and the browser told me the application or websites is not available. It is interesting. Right now the link is working.

    DaveLV,

You pay that much annual fee and have you ever thought Diners Club? Just a thought.

Yeah -- they look almost identical except for this on the Visa site:

    Airport Parking Guarantee*
To make the most of your valuable time, Visa Signature cardholders are guaranteed airport parking space at more than 40 Thrifty Car Rental parking facilities across the country, and valet parking is available at many locations.

    Here's more:

What are the benefits of Airport Parking Guarantee?
The Airport Parking Guarantee provides Signature cardholders with guaranteed parking at more than 40 Thrifty car rental parking locations across the U.S. When a cardholder arrives at a Thrifty parking location where valet parking is available, an attendant will park their car at the parking location. At Thrifty locations where valet parking is not available, a number of individual parking spaces will be marked "Reserved for Visa Signature Cardholders."

Cardholders will be driven by shuttle van to and from the airport terminal. At valet parking facilities, the shuttle van operator will call ahead to ensure the cardholder's car is ready and waiting for pickup.

There is no additional charge to Visa Signature cardholders for the Airport Parking Guarantee Service. Cardholders are required to pay for parking services at the regularly posted daily parking rates.
