Hey everyone, I used my AMEX Rewards Green Card at Walmart, after I swipe my card the ladie at the register ask for my billing ZIP CODE, I looked at the register and it was asking for it. Is this normal at Walmart, asking for billing zip code? Every other merchant ask for ID only. =)
Don't put much past WALMART. I bought a computer and paid with a check over $200, they practically called out the calvary.

Exotic amex is doing it as a test run to stop fraud ....well they got me used plat card forgot zip was to po box in next town wrong zip denied ...used visa never asked.....for zip.
Not sure if this is why, but I've just written an automated credit card handling system through VeriSign. One of the capabilities described in the manual is an 'Address Verification Service'. It states that AVS compares a submitted street address (number only) and zip code with the values on file at the cardholder's bank For this, the vendor (WalMart in this case), would get a lower bank rate. Now since they are only requesting just the zip code, it may or may not be the same thing. But I suspect whoever they are processing their credit card transactions through is applying something similar. And again, the rationale behind it is to help prevent fraud.
I CAN PRINT THE WHOLE AGREEMENT WITH WAL*MART BUT IT IS A WASTE OF MY TIME... SECURITY AND FRAUD PROTECTION

That's a violation of my constitution rights, but zip code, sure, fire away. Sacrasm to the nth degree of course. I thought some of the esteemed members of this forum here would have BLOWN UP at the aspect of them asking for your zip code. Congradulations to those select few, you're finally seeing the light, it's all about protecting you, the retailer, and the bank who issued the card.

Re: Re: Re: Re: ==WALMART Asking fo How about if you move to a different town, send the change of address, and the CSR typos your zip (which you won't find out until the next bill comes) so you give your old zip, then try it with your new zip, and can't buy anything because you don't know what zip they have in their systems.
