I have been asking for about3 months now about recieveing a cl increase from Providian..Opened account last April and have not recieved a CL offer as yet..Getsmart they did drop my interest rate to 16.99 and a whopping increase of about a $100.. THat card was opened up in June of last year..Well Providian just sent me a upgrade to platinum offer for $100 and a $1000 increase which will give me a CL of $1300..They just turned me down last week for a CL increase because they said I had too many inquiries in the last few months..

Getsmart, is your platinum upgrade for your getsmart visa or another Providian card?

I have the Get smart visa card since June 2000 credit line is $3250 interest at the beginning was 23.9 and after a year I called and spoke with retention and told them my Cap One Gold is at 15.9 a.p.r. the guy told me he could offer me 16.9 a.p.r. fixed and I took it. My last increase was last year in July for $2250 for a fee of $49 I have not received any more increases.

You should call the Cap 1 consumer advocate (Mr. Cook) and get you apr reduced. I hit the 1 year mark on my gold card a couple of weeks ago and called. My apr was reduced to 12.27% (?) and I got a $1,000 increase.

Actually I have spoken to Mr Cooke last month and he lowered my a.p.r. on two accounts and increased my limits on three accounts. I have no Idea how this happened but about two weeks ago I got a Capital One offer to have my Gold visa upgraded to Platinum and the credit line increased. I called the number and accepted the Platinum upgrade. When I planetfeedback Mr Cook in January I did mention to him that one day I would like to get a Cap One Platinum card but I have no idea if this offer came because of the letter or just a marketing offer. Oh well, I am just happy I got upgraded to Platinum. I will post when my new Platinum card arrives.

I told him the same thing and was told I needed at least a $5,000 loc in order to get a platinum card. After reading some of the posts here about people being solicited for the cap 1 plat and getting $400 - $500 limits, I know what he told me is not true. I haven't received a single offer from Cap 1 since I got this card a year ago. Is the limit on your gold $5000?

I also told him I would like a bt offer. He said he saw no offers in there for me. On Tuesday of this week, I got an offer for BT. Go figure.

LKH, My Cap One visa started out as a $200 limit card then after about 9 months of having the card I got a Gold card upgrade and a line increase for a fee of $39, I took the offer and two weeks ago I get the offer for the Platinum upgrade and credit line increase for a $39 fee. I don't think Mr Cooke had anything to do with the platinum upgrade. I think the Marketing Dept at Capital One figures out how they can make more money and then they send out different offers to their account holders. My Platinum upgrade is not free but I don't mind paying the $39 one time fee. When the Platinum visa arrives the credit line will be $2650 but in August I plan on calling Mr Cooke and will combine my Classic master card into the Platinum visa so the limit on the Platinum card will be over 5K. I have noticed that the best offers seem to come to gold card holders for some odd reason. I have had my classic mastercard since Dec, 1998 and have never received any increase offers or upgrades. The best advice I can give to Capital One card holders is to keep your accounts in good standing and keep a sharp eye on the mailbox for special offers.
