What can I get?

I'm trying to move dh into prime cc land. He has 689 TU (1996 bk only neg), 664 Exp Fako (1996 bk only neg) and 674 Eq (Worst report - 1996 bk and 2 CA awaiting validation). His current cards are:

First Premier (yuck 18.9%, fees from hell, $550 CL)
    Cap 1 (yuck again, 19.8%, $750 CL)
    Cap 1 Platinum (12.9%, $7,500CL)
    USAA (Var. rate, Prime + 3.9%, 10% min., $500CL)
    + 2 store cards

Applied for Citibank - wondered why they never checked his reports and I received a letter this week - It's their policy NOT to do business with those with APO addresses.

Was getting ready to apply for Household Bank - noticed "NOT available to APO addresses"

Tried BofA - declined b/c of bk, PFB'd for reconsideration on 4/1, haven't heard from them or received anything.

Tried our CU that we have been with for 10 years - denied b/c of escalating debt (thank you cap 1 for not reporting limits)

I'm really not trying for anything else right now, just wanted to lay low for awhile until we get the truck in Sept. but I am really anxious to get one of the "good" cards. He just received the USAA card, but for the measly CL, I feel thats a step in the right direction. Any ideas what else would be available to him?

Why are you so interested in getting him into debt?

The CU was trying to help you out by giving you a message... stop carying balances on your cards.

I mean, he's already got over $9,000 in credit limits, and you want him to have MORE? What's the point? So he can hand his entire paycheck over to the CC companies each month?

He needs to pay off his debt before he looks to get more. If not, he's going to have an appointment with a bankruptcy attorney one day soon.

Once he's debt free, go to the credit union and apply for a card with a reasonable limit and no fees. They'll approve him with no problem.

All he's doing right now is making the CC companies rich by paying fees for 4 different cards that he obviously cannot afford to carry.

Stop applying for credit so much. You're just doing damage with all those inquiries.

You sure took some liberties with your assumptions.
Just because he has credit lines does not mean he has balances on them. I have about 15 accts and pay them in full each month.

The only point I agree with you on is the inquiries. Everything else is just speculation on your part.

How did I know you would answer this? I meant to request for advice from anyone but you....

Did you read the original post?

"Tried our CU that we have been with for 10 years - denied b/c of escalating debt "

The CU is trying to tell them something --- that they have too much debt already, and that taking on more isn't a good idea.

4 credit cards is more than anyone needs...especially someone on a military budget.

This person is obviousy hungry to get her SO as many credit cards as possible, without regard to the long-term effects of doing so.

LOOK...as if i need to explain myself to you...yes he has those cards...they are not maxed - his total balances are less than 2k - and will be paid in full next week

we are by no means in debt

My point was to close the subprime and get the prime

I will now enjoy the pleasures of the ignore button

In the future, you should indicate that you'd prefer a sugar-coated response that allows you to continue to live in denial, instead of trying to solve your debt problems and live within your means.

You wonder why you cannot get credit? It's because you don't understand credit.

Furthermore the inquiries - 4 in total were spread out over all 3 cr's...w/ 2 going on eq which had none...i'm done here...

    Too funny.

Yes, the CU turned you down because you were $2k in debt on $9k in credit lines.

    Oh my...

Well, had you totally picked apart my post you would so smartly notice how it states cap 1 does not post their limits...making it look like the cards are maxed...thank you so much for your lack of scruples and sense

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: What can I get?

And you couldn't have simply gone to the credit union and shown them that you had a $7.5k limit on the card?

Sorry, the CU obviously turned you down because you're not being responsible with credit.

Learn to be responsible with your CC's and you won't get turned down in the future.

Dump the expensive $500 limit cards and keep the $7500 limit card. Then, after you've paid it off, go back to the CU and ask for another card.

    Problem solved.

The problem would be solved if judgemental people like you would get a clue. Are you even aware that a credit report may show $2000 in debt but the actual amount is 0?

That is completely uncalled for, unnecessary and is something that you don't know to be true. What is your reason for being here? So you can put down people to build up your own ego?

I suspect you will be the next one to be banned.

    1) Yes, I've heard that before.

    2) My reason for being here is to provide real-world advice on credit issues. Apparently, most people here would rather congratulate people for making foolish financial decisions, rather than offering constructive advice on how to improve their financial situation.

The original poster is going inquiry-happy in an attempt to get more credit for her SO, who obviously doesn't need any more credit. The highest ranking member of the armed forces (which I'm sure her SO is not) doesn't need $9k in revolving credit if they are carrying balances.

The advice-givers on this message board would be well-advised to provide more education on getting out of debt, rather than offering advice on how to dig a deeper hole.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: What can I get?

As the original poster, let me give my "real-world" reply.

Who the hell are you to judge me? You know nothing about my financial situation. You know nothing of my SO's position. You know nothing as to whether I have an income or not. You know nothing of any bills I may or may not have. You had nothing to add to this thread but to preach your anti-credit and pro-slamming tactics.

This board is centered around building and rebuilding credit, of which the majority of Americans use. The reason of my post was to GET RID OF the subprime cards!! NOT acquire more debt. Apparently as righteous as you claim to be your ignorance shows with your lack of ability to fathom that.

Additionally, yes I right this moment, have 2k debt. Yes the CU turned me down because of escalating debt BECAUSE Capital One DOES NOT show credit limits (Plain English Idiot - IT APPEARS MAXED). The big cap1 card is the ONLY CARD that has a balance, well but for the First Premier that I cannot get to 0. I will state AGAIN the reason for my post was to close all the friggen cards I have now once replaced with prime cards.

The inquiries are not an issue as if you could count 3 applications were made - all on different reports AND as of right now each report has 2 or less inquiries in the last 6 mths. Had you read ANYTHING else in my post, you would comprehend I wasn't looking for anything else right now but in the FUTURE!

As far as me marching my little happy butt down to the CU and showing them my limit on the Cap1 card - hard to do when I am overseas and they are stateside, I received the letter on Saturday so gee I couldn't even call or fax them.

You are a condescending egotistical roach who has no intelligent response to any of the threads on this board. You obviously enjoy playing the devils advocate here and stirring up trouble. You and those like you are the reason of this boards demise. This is not a get out of debt forum, a debt free forum or slam those that have a 2k balance on a credit card forum or slam those that use credit wisely or unwisely forum.

Ten years ago you would have had a reason too lecture and belittle me over my lack of financial responsibility, today you do not as I have had a very proactive stance in my financial situation. I have no need for the likes of you to claim to know anything about me or my situation and/or to bash me or my intentions.
