I've got a tradeline on my TU report with a staus of "Unrated". Can someone tell me what "unrated" means? Apparently it was part of my student loan. It was bought by another lender, and a tradeline appears on my report from the other lendor who I'm currently paying, but this line still exists from the original holder as "unrated". It says it is "never late" and still lists a balance of almost $2000.

So, what does "unrated" mean? And should I try and get this line deleted?

    Thanks,
    Kevin

Some folks have found that "unrated" does not affect your score positively or negatively. I can not tell you from experience whether or not this is true. Actually with FICO scores more of a random # generator, I am not sure anyone really can attest to this 100%. In either case, unrated items would still be seen by a human pulling your account, so if I were you, I would dispute it and try to try and have it removed.

I wouldn't jump into disputing an unrated acct. What are the specifics of it?

That is true tmitchell, I re-read the original post, and I had thought it said it was late, but it said NEVER late. It was just purchased by another creditor.

I agree with you and do feel that it should only be disputed if it showed derogatory actions but was still "unrated". Sorry for the mistake.

Ok, so maybe I'll just leave it on there. But can anyone tell me what "unrated" actually means on a credit report?

From my experiences it's 2 things:

    1) The account is so new (less than 6 months) that it can't be rated
    2) The account was changed to another number, i.e. lost/stolen card, or was changed over to a different type of card, therefore it's "unrated" whereas the new card will reflect the status.

    Hope this helps...
