My fiance' got a letter from a law firm out of Missouri, saying that they are trying to collect on an old medical debt of his; we both know that the debt is at leat 5 years old.

By searching the internet, we learned that medical debts are considered
"closed-end debts", is that right ?

In other places, it says medical debts are contracts?

If so, what is the SOL for a medical debt in Illinois, is it
    5 years, 10years, or what?

From what I have read, written contracts are for a specific amount with a defined payment over a certain amount of time. For instance, a car loan. You agree to pay X dollars a month for Y months. Unless at some point he signed something agreeing to pay this debt in this fashion, it probably isn't a written contract. I would think you have a good argument that this bill is beyond the SOL.

    Thanks for the reply !
I was pretty siure that that was the case.....BUT, there IS alot of "good and bad" information on the internet; AND during my search, I found alot of conflicting information regarding this matter.

I was able to learn that medical debts are considered "open-end" unless the creditor gets YOU to sign something like a pay agreement, then it becomes a contract.

I already sent them an SOL Letter, telling them to "go pound dirt" somewhere else.....LOL
