I have really bad credit from some mistakes I made about 4 or 5 years ago, now I am finally making good money and I would like to start to repair my credit.

I looked on my credit report and I have 3 accounts which were badly delinquent and eventually paid in full and closed. There isn't anything I can do about that right?

There are also 2 items on my credit reports from about 5 years ago both from collection agencies, one saying I never paid $600 the other for $200.

I don't know what they are for or who I'm supposed to pay the money to. I was thinking about signing up with a credit repair agency like ovation law but Ive heard that a lot of businesses like that are scams. What is the best way to start and are there any decent credit repair companies or should I just do it my self?

    Hi there Knat & welcome!

Your in good company here. I am of the opinion that there is nothing you could pay a company to do for credit repair that you can't do yourself. All you need is the education. Education is imperative, you have to know what you are doing.

Start by reading the stickies above and figure out how to read your credit reports, triage your baddies and develope a plan of action for each.

Then get a real credit report from each agency (Experian, Equifax & Transunion) you can get one free every year & are also entitled to one if you are denied credit. I think the addy is www.freeannualcreditreport.com
This way you can get a true look at your credit standing.

Usually the first things that are done after the above is to opt out and dispute old names & addys.

Credit repair is a huge task, and its easy to get burnt out. It's also time consuming and may take monthes or more to accomplish. Take it slow and make sure you understand what you are doing. Figure out the statute of limitations for each of your baddies. If a baddie is within SOL (statute of limitations which is the period in which you could be sued) you need to be very careful with those.

Ask any questions you like. Beleive me, no question is too dumb.

Good luck & get to reading!

I'm not worried about being sued, I have $800 of collections on me within the SOL and I can pay them right now, since my credit mishaps ive gotten a good job. I make good money and have almost no financial obligations. I just want to know who to pay, and how to make an agreement to get the items deleted when I do.

I know I can do this on my own but I could really use some help, all the credit repair/counseling places out there seem like such BS though. Are there credit lawyers out there that arnt full of crap? If not i'd be willing to offer a senior member of this forum a few hundred dollars to counsel me on my credit situation.

Then I would definitely recommend Apex credit services. You can find him right here on this forum. All you have to do is read a few of his posts and visit his web site and you should quickly see that he is very professional and very ethical. He even advertises that you don't pay him until after he has done the work for you which is what is demanded of him by the Credit Repair Organizations Act. (CROA)

I agree with Cap1sucks, go with Apex Credit Services if you feel you need a service.

I personally feel it is better to do it yourself, but I can understand the value in just writing a check and having it done for you. One of the key advantages of using a repair service is "avoiding" the mistakes commonly made by "DIYers" starting off.

Just set your expectations at realistic levels when using a service; not everything can be removed, nor can your credit report be always made "perfect" through a service.

    Good Luck...
