Is Why Chat's HIPAA dispute for medical bills still valid?

Hi everyone! Looking for feedback/input on whether or not Why Chat's HIPAA dispute method is still valid (since HIPAA has changed some over the years) - I know it was wildly successful when I first started working on my credit and now I have just one baddie left, which is a medical bill. I haven't posted enough in here to post the link (longtime reader, sometime poster) but I welcome any feedback from anyone who has tried this lately!!

(added spaces to try to break up the link and still post it)

The major parts of HIPAA haven't changed, so I would say it should be as effective as it originally was. Especially disclosing anything that could remotely be medical information to unauthorized parties.

Welcome back Acacia. So what's your next step in tackling this medical debt? I'm interested to hear what you have planned.

My plan is simply to follow Whychat's method step by step. Hopefully by the end of the process, not only will the debt be paid but it will be the last negative to be removed from my reports. It's a ridiculously small amount (less than $150) and it was my screw up for not reading correctly what the insurance had sent to me. No problem with paying it, I just don't believe one should have their credit so negatively affected for 7 years once it's paid.

I even tried talking to the OC and reasoning with them once I realized my mistake (of course offering to pay in full while on the call), but they refused to pull it back from collections so I've let it lay for close to two years since.

Thanks for the welcome and wish me luck!

Small medical collections are the worst. Best of luck to you in getting it paid and removed from your credit reports!

Please come back and let us know how the process goes for you...very interested in hearing about it.

Oh, and keep in mind that the new FICO 9 Credit Score places less emphasis on unpaid medical collections, and once the collection is paid off FICO disregards it completely from the credit scoring calculation. Just something to keep in mind if you are ever working with a lender that's already using the FICO 9 credit score. Here's a short blog post I wrote on the change recently: FICO Score 9: Paid vs Unpaid Collections

Thanks for the reminder about that! I remember reading something about it a while back, but wasn't working on my reports at the time so it became fugitive information. I'll check out your blog post!
