Spring (Fall!) cleaning of the letters

I was just looking over some of the sample letters, and I noticed some of them are quite old and/or not in line with current thoughts on how to handle these matters. I won't post any of them in here since that's a semi-private forum, but as an example, look at the validation letters. IMHO we'd be doing a big service to users looking to clean incorrect information off their credit reports if we did some updating there.

Can we maybe either have an admin "freshen" the letters, or possibly allow some of the senior members to post replacement letters?

I don't think we should even have sample letters at all. One thing we keep telling everyone is to not use letters they find on the internet. Maybe just some guidelines of the type of things to say/not say in a letter.

I'm all for that as well. The biggest guideline I would suggest is that no letter should be more than 4-5 sentences long, and most should be one or two. If someone gets into circumstances where they absolutely have to send a longer letter, then that's usually a good sign that they probably need to re-evaluate their course of action.

    Amen!

The point that the newbie needs to realize is that getting one's protections in place is much more important than showing how knowledgeable he is in collection matters or how angry he is about receiving a dunning letter.

Great suggestion. Any takers among our senior members who would like to work with the admins to develop guidelines for sample letters?
