We stopped driving around to find the best price on groceries/gas/misc... Sure we saved money immediately on the product but the time and fuel used to get it averaged everything out or made it more expensive..

Luckily we have a Wally World, ALDI and "Cheap" gas within 5 miles..

First thing, turn your microwave off until you're ready to use it. That LCD clock costs you $100 a year to run!

Where did you get this information? I have an outside flood light that's on all the time and it doesn't cost $100 a year!!

Well, I'm new here but was interested in this post so thought I would add my two cents in too.

I must second the angelfoodministry.com Very, very good deal! I also must second the ALDI grocery store!!! That is the cheapest place to get milk! You can also get non-perishable items from amazon.com in their grocery section and it's free shipping if you spend $25.

Some of the local "hometown" grocery stores here have a deal in the meat section where you can get 5 items for $19.95. You can mix and match or however you choose to do it.

I know I have more I just can't think of them right now.

I'm new here too. As for $$ saving tips, if you know someone who raises beef or pork, you should ask about buying a cow or hog from them and have it processed. Hogs generally produce half thier live weight processed but beef not as much. I will add if you go this route to have someone go half on the beef.

If you live in an area where there are a lot farmers raising beef, see if they occasionally have a butchering where you can buy like a quarter of beef, or sometimes you can buy just a certain amount.

I grew up on a dairy farm, and the owner butchered several head a year. My father got half a beef as part of his compensation, the farmer kept what he wanted, and the rest was sold to friends and neighbors. Many times you had to help with the butchering.

i agree that Branded meal is nothing but the same thing as local but packed better for looks. and they can claim any damn thing for quality but it is basically the same

yeah, selling your old things is great idea, i have earned few bucks a few months ago by selling my books.

I try to take my old stuff to the flea market at least once a month

My hubby always unplugs everything when we are going to be away for a day or two to save a lil money on electricity.

One thing I have been doing differently is online bill paying everything I can, the price of stamps just goes up & up.

The cost of food is getting insane, I have started only buying meat on sale & stocking it in the freezer, I manage to keep a fair selection of meats so my family doesn't go crazy eating the same thing over & over. Alot of the grocery stores will have a little clearance section for meat that is just past it's prime. You can get some fair savings if you catch it just after they set it out but inspect it closely to make sure it isn't too far gone. Some of the meat they set out there looks downright scary!

We have cut back as much as we can on traveling due to gas prices. I finally broke down and traded my old falling apart Malibu in on a Kia Spectra with much better gas mileage. I have to commute for work and my daughters dr appts so we try to combine all out of town errands in with that. It's tough after working 13 hours to go to go to places located in the city I work but it beats paying gas for another trip.

Still, it seems to be getting harder & harder to keep up.

This is a good question, But its up to us how we spend mony for unknown things..... we could have a home food more than hotels & restaurants, than to spend in parties all we could save that money...
