Collection Agency Reporting False Payments

    What can you do about a collection agency reporting payments made by the consumer that was not made? Is this normal practice so they can keep it on your credit file?

    Sorry I am new to all of this and should have given more details.

    I had a HSBC CC chargeoff from 2006 showing on all 3 bureaus. I have not made any payments on this since 2006, now they are showing...

    May, June, July 2011 "OK"; August "30", September "60", October "120"; November & December "OK", January - March 2012 "OK"; April "60", June "90" and July "120"

    Obviously they sold the account to a CA by the name of CACH and they are reporting the same info above.

    How can they do this?

    Anyway, have you tried disputing the incorrect late pays through the CRAs? That would be my first recommendation. Also, recent late pays won't change when the debt should fall off your credit reports, since that date is determined by the DOFD. A recent payment or late payment shouldn't change that.

    You need to contact the collection agency directly by certified mail and request they send you complete varifcation of the debt. Tell them to include any signature pages they have in the file. It is important to understand these companies do not have the same rights as the original creditor in these matters.
