Hi All

Wow am I ever thrilled to find this forum! I've spent the last 3 hours reading and laughing, scribbling notes furiously and yelling "ah ha!" over and over. :)

By way of an introduction, I'll explain ..

I'm enjoying my first year of retirement after a 22 year career in the Navy. I moved to Missouri to take care of my mother, and settle into the civillian lifestyle, only to find myself going crazy with so much time on my hands. I shopped till I found a fantastic deal on a boat, worth nearly 30 thousand dollars, for sale for 5 thousand dollars. I added an extra grand in for expenses, and decided to take out a loan with my credit union for 6 grand total, an easily managed sum.

Imagine my shock when my bank (Navy Federal) declined my loan! I thought I had great credit ... apparently not. The Loan Officer told me that he could see several "charge off's" from creditors going back many years, bills I had no idea existed. I immediately ordered a copy of my credit report, and when it comes I'll have a better idea of what he saw. In the mean time I'm reading and taking notes, and so very glad you people are here.

This boat will no doubt be lost, but at least when I'm done I know I'll have the good credit that I thought I had, and I'll have no problem the next time I ask for a loan.

Spencer

Hi All

First of all, welcome aboard. When you get your reports, post in the credit forum, not here. You'll get a better response.

Have you actually talked to someone at the credit union and explained that these accounts are not yours? Sometimes they'll work with you.
