if I go back and pay an original creditor, who is the OC from buying out another Company, does the CA have to delete their entry, I take it from my reports its still owned by the OC,, if I pay the OC, is the CA gonna just update their tradeline to PAID collection,, thanks

First, you want to deal with whoever owns the account.

Second, you want to use a negotiation letter and see if in return for payment, they will delete the account.

    How much is the debt?

Can you pay 80% or 100% of the debt?

Its stupid, and makes me mad,, cause its the 1st entry on all three CRAs, on 4/98 I moved, and I remembre calling Media One to cancel my cable bill, well low and behold,, here we are in 2002, and CA was listing till 1/2002 as Media One, then it turned into ATT broadband, the original amount is $31, but of course its now $94, I disputed it w/equifax, in 3days, 2 being the weekend,, they came back, with CHECKED status, replacing UNPAID status, status as of 6/2002, and DOLA 3/1998,, I dont beleive in over a weekend Equifax did a complete verification, but on the other hand, somehow they knew the last time I paid was 3/1998,,,,,,,, I just want it off my report,,,,other sites have told me to dispute till I die,, but taking in consideration the cost of nonstop RRR letters and such, if i could just go back and pay ATT ( I have no idea where to call) and get it off my report,, or do you think I should try the CA and offer 1/2 for a written letter of deletion,, anything else isnt worth it I dont want a Paying as agreed, Paid, Paid Coll, on a CA tradeline on my CRAs, I dont want any CA tradelines,,,,, thanks

You could offer 80% $75.20 for deletion of the account. There should be a full address for this account on your Experian report. For this kind of money I would offer 80% or 100% and just get it over with.

Here is a sample settlement letter:
    ------------------------------------------------------------
    Date:
    Creditor Address
    City, State, Zip

    Re: Account Number

    Dear Sirs:

This letter is an offer to amicably settle the above account. It is not to be construed as an acknowledgment of my liability for this debt in any form.

I will pay your company the amount of $____ as full settlement of this account.

If you accept this agreement, I will send you a money order or certified cashiers check for the settlement amount of $______ in exchange for a full deletion of all references regarding this account from my credit profile and full satisfaction of the debt. This agreement is binding and will be void should you not hold up to your end of the agreement. Furthermore the debt will be deleted from my credit profile at all three credit bureaus or the bureaus your company regularly reports to in the course of doing business.

If you agree to the above, please acknowledge with your signature and return a copy to me. Upon receipt of this signed acknowledgment, I will promptly send you a money order or cashiers check in the amount stated above.

Notice: This agreement is restricted. This is not a renewed promise to pay but rather a restricted settlement offer only. By not signing below, you agree that the debt has not been renewed nor has any concrete written agreements been exchanged.

    Creditorâ??s Authorized Signature: _____________________________ Date:____________

    Name Title :
    Sincerely,

Do not sign or date letter (This is necessary to avoid renewing the debt, should the creditor refuse to agree.) Be sure to not use a personal check if they agree to pay.
    ------------------------------------------------------------
    Good luck

thank you, and yes we do live in interesting times,, LOL,, if its was for a bigger amount I would validate till I was blue in the face, cause I know they have no written agreement, I picked up the phone and ordered cable, I also still have my Money order Recp, from 3/1998 the last time I paid, but I really remember the day I called and canceled service, the CA is some unknown mom and pop , the guy Bubba is running it from his home, when you call the number, its the guys home number saying " We arent in, if this is for CA, page me at,,,, yall have a nice day, ya hear,, " I cant believe Att or media one gave him the Acct, from other posters and sites I see Gulf states has these accts, everyone writes in saying I never had anything with ATT broadband, but its also Media One,,,, thanks for the letter its a good one,,,,, but yah, dont date it, but if I send it RRR to make sure he got it, he will have a date,, Ill offer him 72 bucks, for a 6 pack and some bait,, and in return I want deletion or no deal,,,,,

    Erik,

Are you saying that I should NOT type the date in my settlement letter nor type my name after "Sincerely."

This post is over eight years old. Not only is Erik no longer around, things change a lot.

I don't know if that letter will still work or not. PFDs are rare these days.

Many people say not to sign the letter because your signature can be copied and put on some other document. I don't know why you wouldn't date it.
